Current Sermon Series – How Great Thou Art!
How do you describe the indescribable? How do you define the indefinable? When Moses asked for God’s name (basically asking for a description of who he is) God’s response was “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). From there we learn that God’s proper name is referenced to in the Old Testament as YHWH or “I AM”. As people who love the Lord, we want to get to know who God is and so we search scripture to learn about him and we make feeble attempts to grasp the eternal God. Throughout history theologians have tried to sum up the attributes of God to try and help us catch some of the multiple facets of the infinite God. With the help of the writings of theologians as diverse as Augustine, Aquinas, John Calvin, Herman Bavinck and Louis Berkhof, this sermon series will look at only eight of those characteristics of God. We recognize that a sermon can really do no more than whet our appetites, but it is our prayer that this series will also cause you to praise our Triune God all the more saying, “How great thou art!”
