When I was asked to write a few words about myself for this I was overwhelmed. How do you distill down to a few sentences all of who you are with your gifts, abilities and joys while also being conscious of your limitations, temptations and sorrows?
I guess I land at the spot where many of us are at: I am learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
My wife and children are part of that journey and they teach me about joy and love and forgiveness and contentment. My friends teach me about laughter, humility and generosity. And my congregation teaches me about selflessness, commitment, dedication, hospitality and, well, about Jesus.
And that is what it is about, isn’t it?
The Apostle Paul says, “I resolve to know nothing except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2) and again, “I consider all things rubbish except for the knowledge of Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings” (Phil. 3:8,10 paraphrase).
That’s the journey I am on. That is the journey Covenant is on. And I invite you to join us on this journey whether for a short while or until we meet our Lord Jesus and that together we can grow up into being what we already are as holy children of God.
